MARTIN AM-1 MAULER

The Mauler was designed during WWII as a carrier-based bomber and torpedo plane. It was powered by a 28-cylinder radial engine producing 3,000 hp. It could carry 3 torpedoes, 12 250-lb bombs, and 800 rounds for the 4 20-mm cannons. In 2009 the museum acquired two incomplete aircraft with the goal to assemble one complete aircraft. Ten volunteers travelled to Midland, TX, to disassemble and crate the planes for shipping.  Only 165 were built.
